OUR
HISTORY
A Family Tradition
Historians know the name Valdueza for the relevance of the Álvarez de Toledo family in the history of Spain, Europe, and America. Romantics will tell you that we are one of the last families that still drives cattle on horseback from Extremadura to Ávila. For gourmets, the name Valdueza means a magnificent olive oil, red wine, vinegar, and honey.
It is worth mentioning family members such as D. Pedro Álvarez de Toledo, Count of Carrión (11th Century) who reconquered Toledo from the moros; Fadrique Álvarez de Toledo, II Duke of Alba and private counselor of Ferdinand and Isabella; His son, Fernando, Gran Duke of Alba; D. Pedro Álvarez de Toledo, Marquis of Miraflores and Viceroy of the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies; D. Francisco Álvarez de Toledo, Count of Oropesa and Viceroy of Peru. And last, we should cite D. Fadrique Álvarez de Toledo y Osorio, who received from King Philip IV in 1624 the title of Marqués de Valdueza, for his many services to the Crown, the least of which was not the defense of Salvador de Bahía keeping the Dutch out of Brazil when he was the Admiral of the Atlantic Ocean.

Products Marqués de Valdueza
The products Marqués de Valdueza (and Merula) are produced on the Perales de Valdueza Estate, intimately intertwined with the family history for many generations and situated in the vicinity of the city of Mérida (Extremadura). This city, Emerita Augusta, was the capital of the province, Lusitana, of the Roman Empire. As was customary, Rome established its greatest cities on land where the best grapevines and olive trees could be cultivated.
